You can dishwash most everyday glazed ceramic mugs, but hand wash handmade pottery, photo or printed mugs, metallic trim, cracked pieces, and insulated ceramic mugs unless their maker explicitly says dishwasher safe.

Everyday glazed ceramic tolerates dishwashing, while decorations and special finishes are more fragile.
Exception checklist
Hand wash when the mug is handmade, carries a photo or surface print, has metallic trim, shows a crack or glaze crazing, or uses a double-wall insulated construction. For an ordinary intact glazed mug with no special decoration, a normal dishwasher cycle is usually appropriate.
